About Sigourney Jellins

With a background in eventing, dressage and show jumping, and over twenty-five years of riding experience, Sigourney Jellins and her Miramar Sport Horses team bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the training process. Sigourney is constantly in pursuit of knowledge to make the training process seamless for the horse, and to create a stronger bond with our equine partners. She has trained with the top riders and trainers in eventing, dressage, and show jumping, has a keen interest and background in classical dressage, and is accomplished in groundwork techniques from various methods. She is currently focused on reaching the top levels of sport in eventing.

Sigourney believes that an understanding of horse psychology, systematic and consistent schooling, and a compassionate approach are key to successful horse training. Drawing on her years of experience, she applies an individualized approach to the training of each horse or horse and rider team, and is not averse to ‘thinking outside the box’ when it comes to training and teaching. The overall objective of training and horse management is always a happy, healthy horse that has its natural needs met and is thriving in its competition or pleasure riding role.

Sigourney has trained multiple horses from just started under saddle through the intermediate and FEI levels in eventing and has competed through Third level in dressage (schooled through Grand Prix), and in the hunter and jumper rings at the “A” level.  She has successfully trained and ridden a variety of breeds including thoroughbreds, warmbloods, Irish sport horses, PREs, friesians, arabians, and even akhal-tekes. She has a special affinity for Thoroughbreds, successfully competed at the 2016 Thoroughbred Makeover in Kentucky, and has restarted many other Thoroughbreds in their post-track careers.
